The announcement was made at an event at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, to tell journalists and members of the public about the return of the popular show which went off the air in 2017. The ultimate prize to be won on the show is now N20m, and it would be broadcast for 52 weeks Tagged ‘The Rebirth’, another addition to the show will see contestants able to use a ‘lifeline’ of ‘asking the host’ whenever they get stuck.  Killing people for rituals won’t make you rich overnight, Ben Bruce tells youths Ben Murray-Bruce, a former Nigerian senator, has lamented the increasing trend of ritual killings among young people. In a tweet, the former senator said young people who are supposed to be the “leaders of tomorrow now engage in unimaginable crimes just to become millionaires overnight”. “What has suddenly gone wrong with young people who now believe that rituals involving human blood will make them rich?” he asked. “So many Nigerians go missing daily, and while many are never found.  ASUU Begins Preparation For Strike, Declares Monday Lecture-free; The Academic Staff Union of Universities has urged its chapters across the country to sensitise members of the public on the situation between the union and the Federal Government. This is as it declared Monday, February 7, 2022, as a lecture-free day in a bid to enhance the sensitisation. The National President of the Union, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, disclosed this in an interview on Saturday evening. The last national strike by ASUU was in March 2020 and it lasted till December 2020, when a Memorandum of Action was signed. However, a year after signing the MoA, ASUU accused the government of failing to fulfil its side of the bargain and threatened to mobilise for another strike immediately. The government quickly moved to pay N55bn as part-payment for the Earned Academic Allowance and Revitalisation Fund, but the union was unmoved until the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council and other dignitaries waded in.  Obasanjo named eternal grand patron of kegites;  Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has been named eternal patron of Kegites club, a socio-cultural group in Nigeria. The Kegites club was established in 1962 at the then University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. The club is one of the popular socio-cultural groups in Nigerian tertiary institutions. On Wednesday, the gyration committee of the group paid a courtesy visit to Obasanjo at his Abeokuta residence. During the meeting, the group sympathised with the former president over the fire incident that razed his farm located in Benue state.  The former president accepted the position of the eternal grand patron of Kegites bestowed on him.

 Police: 150 suspects arrested, 61 guns recovered in Imo within one year The Imo police command says it arrested 150 suspects linked to kidnapping and “terrorism” within one year in the state. Rabiu Hussaini, Imo commissioner of police, announced this on Friday when he received Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo, at the command’s headquarters in Owerri. According to Hussaini, the command also recovered 61 guns, as well as 27 vehicles from suspects. “Between the months of January 2021 and January 2022, the unit arrested a total of 105 kidnappers/armed robbers, 45 terrorists, and recovered 27 vehicles of different makes and assorted caliber of arms and ammunition,” he said. Items  recovered were “1 GPMG rifle, 12 AK-47 rifles, four assault rifles, 18 pump action guns, five locally-made GPMG rifles, eight double-barrel guns, 13 cut-to-size locally-made pistols, 180 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition, 60 rounds of live assault ammunition, 82 rounds of live cartridges, 14 locally-made hand grenade

Evans denies being a kidnapper, says ‘police forced me to sign documents; Chukwudimeme Onwuamadike, suspected kidnap kingpin all known as Evans, had denied the allegation of his involvement in abducting a certain businessman. While answering questions from Yusuf Sule, the prosecution counsel, during Friday’s court session, Evans said he was forced to sign documents and act in a certain manner as directed by the police. He denied being a kidnapper, adding that he has a transport business with over 30 workers. Evans also denied collecting $420,000 as ransom from the family of one Sylvanus Ahamonu, a businessman, stating that he never met the man until his arrest. Ahamonu and his wife testified via Zoom on December 17. The businessman had told the court that his car was ambushed by some men in police and military uniforms, including Evans, who claimed to be officers of the defunct special anti-robbery squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force. Speaking during a peaceful rally on “State of the Nation” in Osogbo, Osun State capital on Thursday, the association’s President, Chief Kamorudeen Okikiola said Igoho is not criminal, but a freedom fighter and he is been held illegally through the influence of Nigerian Government on Benin Republic. “Sunday Igboho is not a criminal and we know he is being held illegally, Benin Republic Government has stopped taking him to court, hence, we demand that he should be released through legal means, if they refuse, we will use our magical power to get him out of the prison. Rohr was reported as one of the candidates contacted by Ghana to replace Milovan Rajevac ahead of Ghana’s crucial Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifier against Nigeria in March.  U.S. Court postpones sentencing of Hushpuppi till July 11 The United States District Court for the Central District of California has postponed the sentencing of Ramon “Hushpuppi” Abbas till July 11, 2022. The court document said Judge Otis D. Wright in Los Angeles granted the order after Hushpuppi’s lawyers led by Louis Shapiro  requested for postponement. He is expected to remain in custody for the time being. He was previously scheduled to be sentenced on February 14 for duping people across different continents to the tune of millions of dollars. He pleaded guilty last year to the charges. “At the request of counsel, the sentencing is continued to July 11, 2022, at 11:00 a.m.,” the court document said after the decision was taken on February 2.

The club confirmed he would leave in 2021 but his stint ended on January 31 with Richard Arnold taking over at midnight.  President Buhari Promises To Honour Agreement With ASUU  President Muhammadu Buhari says the Federal Government remains committed to honouring promises made to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to prevent disruptive strikes, engender uninterrupted academic programmes and improve funding of education institutions.  ABSU  Bans Students From Driving cars On Campus  The Management of Abia State University, Uturu has banned the use of personal vehicles by students and flagrant display of wealth on campus. In a notice titled ABIA STATE UNIVERSITY MANAGEMENT BANS STUDENTS FROM DRIVING PERSONAL VEHICLES ON CAMPUS by the registrar Acho Elendu, Ph.D, Henceforth, only staff and accredited visitors would be allowed to drive their vehicles into the campus.  BREAKING: Fear Of Another Coup As Heavy Gunfire Is Reported Near Guinea-Bissau Government Palace; Heavy gunfire was heard on Tuesday in the capital of Guinea-Bissau near a government compound, where a cabinet meeting was being held. Though it was not  clear who was firing the gunshots. A security source with contacts inside the building said people had been hit by the gunfire.  Another source reported that two people were dead, but it was unclear if they were security forces or those who launched the attack. Political instability has blighted the country for decades. Nine coups or attempted coups since independence from Portugal in 1974 have hobbled efforts to pull the economy beyond its reliance on the export of cashew nuts.

 WAEC releases withheld results of candidates that sat for WASSCE 2020/2021; The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have released the withheld results of some candidates that wrote for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) written in 2020 and 2021. This was contained in a communique at the end of the 72nd meeting of the Nigeria Examinations Committee. WAEC explained that only results of candidates exonerated of exam malpractices are released The examination body on Monday, also approved the cancellation of results of candidates who have proven to have been involved in malpractice cases. “In the course of considering the various reported cases of malpractice, the committee, after diligent deliberations, approved appropriate sanctions in all established cases of malpractice, as prescribed by the Rules and Regulations governing the conduct of the Council’s examinations.  Nike Suspends Relationship With Mason Greenwood Nike have announced they have suspended their relationship with Mason Greenwood following the Manchester United forward’s arrest over allegations of rape and assault. Greenwood, 20, was arrested on Sunday following allegations on social media and spent the night in custody after being questioned. Nike initially released a statement to express their ‘deep concern’ over the allegations levelled at the England international. The sportswear giant have now taken the step to cut ties with the player. A statement from Nike on Monday said: ‘We have suspended our relationship with Mason Greenwood. ‘We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation.’

 NAF Acquires 38 New Aircrafts For Terrorism Fight; No fewer than 38 new aircrafts have been inducted into the inventory of the Nigerian Air Force to combat insurgency activities in the country. Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao, in the latest edition of the Airman, a magazine of the Nigerian Air Force, made the disclosure. Amao explained that the latest addition to the fleet included the 12 A-29 Super Tucano aircraft recently acquired by the Nigerian Government. He said while some of the aircraft had been deployed to tackle insecurity in some parts of the country, the others were being used to upscale its pilots’ training. The Chief of Air affirmed that 173 pilots have been trained in the last six years with additional 155 student pilots undergoing training.  He said, “Prior to the coming on board of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration in 2015, the NAF was in the pitiable state owing to neglect as most of its platforms were grounded or in states of disrepair.
